The book is connected to the company Volkswagen, the passage cited does include the initials 'VW' but in this context they are a reference to the writer Virginia Woolf.

The book is connected to the company DHL Express, but in the citation it's clear that the initials DHL that the character is referring to stand for D.H. Lawrence - the writer.

Error in "William Gibson - mentioned in" books section
Hi folks... The William Gibson mentioned in Patty Duke's autobiography "Call me Anna" is not the scifi (cyberpunk) author as erroneously mentioned in the relevant William Gibson page, but his namesake theatrical playwriter William Gibson...
Thanx for the great job so far, and please keep on...!

On page 102 (in my polish version) when Takahashi talks with Mari he mentions it and then describe the plot of it.

Drug references in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Can't even believe I'm saying this, but it IS a big part of the book, so... for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (https://www.smalldemons.com/books/Fear_and_Loathing_in_Las_Vegas_Hunter_S._Thompson_(1971)) only cocaine and marijuana are listed, but there are many, many other references to drug use, both direct and indirect (eg he openly mentions mescaline in the same paragraph as the cocaine reference, but mescaline is not listed.)
Not sure where you're getting your lists of things to index, but maybe part of the issue is that colloquial names for drugs aren't included? Anyways, perhaps something to consider for the future, especially for books…

Marshal Murat
In the novel "Cossacks in Paris", Murat is mentioned. Have a look
"Napoleon waited in Moscow for another two weeks, but the Tsar never came and never sent word. The Emperor was frustrated. There was almost no housing for his men due to the fires which Breutier was no longer around to extinguish, nor much food to feed them. Whether part of the Russian's scorched earth policy or simply from the ordinary stupidity of barbarous men, he didn't know or care. The result was the same. There was lack of shelter, little food, and no alternatives.

Kevin J. Anderson and Rush
Nothing wrong, just a suggestion.
I was browsing through Kevin J. Anderson's listing and see that there's a HUGE opportunity to make mentions to his connection to RUSH, and yet none exist, even on the page that notes musical references in his work.
A recent novel of his, CLOCKWORK ANGELS is a tie-in novel to the band's latest album, and not only has that direct relation, but references lyrics from the band's entire history.
Anderson's very first novel "Resurrection, Inc" was inspired by the Rush album Grace Under Pressure and many more of the author's novels include thousands of references…

Countries change (names, locations...) over time - Locations need to reflect that
For example - the book The Making of the Atomic Bomb references Germany, in 1939.
But the Location link goes to Federal Republic of Germany.
Perhaps treat historical versions of countries much the same as cities - "within" the larger, generically-named country/area?
1 voteThanks, Ian. That’s a great point. Countries’ titles on the site should be showing their common name (i.e. ‘Germany’) instead of their official name (‘Federal Republic of Germany’), which would allow more flexibility for political changes over time.
Our intent is for each country’s description on its page to include past names since there’s room there to provide context around it as well. And for cases where boundaries have changed or the differences are more substantial than just a name change, we try to make separate place pages for each. For example, we have a page for Russia (although it’s titled Russian Federation) and a separate page for U.S.S.R.
Thanks again and hope this helps,

"Deis Irae"
The Deis Irae is featured in Rushdie's THE GROUND BENEATH HER FEET, and is even a chapter heading. Passage, pg 553 in first edition hardcover:
"Ormus Cama and VTO, among others, are accused of negativity and scaremongering, because they continue to play the Quakershaker songs and their new gospel-influenced arrangement of Thomas of Celano's ancient minatory lines."
1 voteThank you for your feedback. We have not yet indexed The Ground Beneath Her Feet, although we do have the book on our site. When it is indexed, we will be able to link the “Dies Irae” to quotes from Rushdie’s book. In the meantime, you can see our “Dies Irae” topic page here:
https://www.smalldemons.com/things/musical_compositions/Dies_Irae
where you can see where it is mentioned in some books that we do already have indexed on the site. -

Lolita locations
Just wanted to let you know, for the book Lolita by Nabokov, he takes the title character around the country, and one of the stops is Mesker Park Zoo in Evansville, IN, where they enjoy watching monkeys play on a model ship. (The attraction has since been converted to a bumper boat ride for kids, but many generations fondly remember "The Monkey Boat.") Anyway, I thought you might want to add that to your entry for Lolita.

Esperanto
Some 3/4 of the world's population are at least bilingual. The majority of monolinguals are native English speakers. Our good fortune--everybody wants to learn our language--is also misfortune, as we lose the perspective on language itself that bilinguals have, along with the perspective on culture and history that comes with a second language. Esperanto is the only constructed language that has become a living, working language. It not only increases dialogue across existing barriers, but also improves understanding of our native tongue and enhances cognitive development of individuals at any age. Visit lernu.net, esperanto.net or Esperanto-USA.org.

"James Bond"
Quote attributed to "Murder by the Book" by Rex Stout did not come from that book, or from anything else by Stout.
1 voteElisabeth, hi! I remember when you were a reader! I’m so glad you’re on the site! Have you checked out any of the books you indexed?
Which quote are you referring to? If you copy paste the link to the page, I can delete it or reassociate the quote.
Thanks for your feedback! Please send more. It’s great to have an original reader checking things out!

Inaccurate references for "Uglies: The Collector's Set"
The site says it's referring to "the Doctor" from Doctor Who and "Tricky" the rapper, and the group "The Smiths". It's not. It's a fantasy book referring to fantasy characters or, in the case of "Tricky", just using the word "Tricky"
3 votesThank you for letting us know. We’ve replaced that page with one for the series (https://www.smalldemons.com/series/Uglies_Scott_Westerfeld) and are in the process of removing the inaccurate references in the 3 books in the series we have so far.

Donovan
There are a ton of Donovan-referencing books on https://www.smalldemons.com/persons/musicians/Donovan , but none that I saw seemed to be about the musician; they just have characters or places named Donovan.
1 voteThank you, Michael. You’re right, there are a ton of mismatched ones, so we’re in the process of removing all of them.

Confusion between "Cambridge, England" and "Cambridge, MA"
There's a big difference between the two Cambridges. Your content filter can't distinguish well between the two.
1 voteThank you for bringing that to our attention! We’re in the process of adding many places to the system, and the University of Cambridge and town of Cambridge, England quotes were indeed getting mapped to the wrong place.
We’ve re-mapped many quotes to the new places and will keep an eye on it as we add more books, but there will definitely be a perpetual level of ambiguity with some quotes that simply say ‘Cambridge’ without much context (we’ll manually try to handle those based on other quotes in the same books). We’d love to know if you see any that are still incorrect.
Thanks again!

Definition of Urban Fiction
I was just a little confused on your Urban genre section and would like to share my thoughts. I assumed that the genre would be more along the lines of Urban as in Street Lit or how WorldCat defines it (http://www.worldcat.org/genres/urban-fiction.html), but some books feel like they are on there due to being in a non-rural setting. Also, Sister Souljah is in African American when she is well known for her Urban Lit - it would be great if she would be in both. After reading Sally Koslow's bio, I was also surprised she was on the list.…
2 votesYes, yo’re entirely totally right, it should be Urban as in Street Lit. We missed this one largely because we’re working with publishers’ BISAC codes which don’t always reflect the content as well as they should, since they’re aimed at bookstores rather than libraries. The Sister Souljah one and the Sally Koslow we’ll change. We’d welcome any other corrections you might have! (Over the course of this year we’ll develop more systems to allow users to correct errors like these.)
